Price Transparency in the Age of Mysterious Healthcare Costs
There are very few things in this world that truly terrify me. But one of them is open enrollment season. Health insurance is a game so complex, so filled with contradictions and confusing terms and hidden fees, that I feel like no matter what plan I choose I’ve already lost. I recently wrote about my own anxiety with understanding health insurance, and about I study I help lead to understand how others are coping with the confusion.
Turns out that for millennials like myself (yes, I am technically a very old millennial) our expectations for price transparency are higher and our understanding of the insurance world is just not that strong. We have expectations to see and compare prices before we go in for care and are willing to shop around until we find a doctor who’s price and quality lineup for us.
You can check out more of the finding from the study (and a few of the tips I’ve picked up through the process) over at The Well in my article Price Transparency in the Age of Mysterious Healthcare Costs .
